Thinking Partner Notes
What’s the fiction: Decisions made in the best interest of the company’s bottom-line drive the greatest team value.
What's really true: Decisions made in the best interest of your team’s people will drive the greatest company value.
Things to try: 1) Practice understanding how your company and team practices influences each teammates pursuit of professional autonomy; Practice discussing how your company and team practices influence each teammates pursuit of purpose; Practice discussing how your company and team practices influences each teammate’s pursuit of mastery.
Next steps: 1) Carve-out 30 to 60 minutes at your team’s next lunch, social event or retreat; 2) Open the time with an invitation for team members to share their answer to a simple question: “Tell us about a teacher who has been important in your life,” or “Tell us about your first summer memory,” or “Tell us about a moment when you felt truly alive and happy”; 3) Every teammate should be invited to share their stories if they want to (yourself included); 4) Keep the storytelling going until the allotted time expires or the stories dry-up.
What good looks like when you're trying to build a culture of wholeness and how you can master this capability.
